A Few Quick Things

Just wanted to let you know about a few important things that will be coming up here at Mary Endres... 

Young Authors:

Students are encouraged to use their best writing skills to write a book for our Young Authors Program. This is not required, but is a great opportunity for the kids to get recognized for their work. Each book should be created in the child's own language and must be in a book form. Students may work alone or with one other person to create their original story. These are due to their homeroom teacher no later than March 1st.

Family Reading and Math Night:

On Thursday, January 29th, from 6:00-7:30 Mary Endres will be hosting a Family Reading and Math night. The night will be full of fun reading and math activities. We are collecting new or gently used books to use at a book swap station at the event. In addition, each student was sent home with a blank paper plate to decorate/make into a mask. They may turn these into their homeroom teacher so that we may use them to decorate for the event.

Fun Visitor

Today we were very lucky to have the help of our DARE officer, Officer Gustis, during math! We are enjoying getting to explore different coins and their characteristics during our daily 5 math stations. Today's challenge was to describe a coin to a teammate, who was wearing a blindfold, without telling them the value or name of the coin. Please have your child try identifying the coin names and values at home. Thank you for your continued support!

    

New Website Layout

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all staying warm! I am excited to let you know that I have revamped our classroom website to make it more user friendly. Resources for current units will now be found on the main page instead of in the math/literacy tabs at the top of the page. This will make it so that all important updates and new resources are sent directly to your email if you are subscribed to our site. I hope that you find this helpful and easier to use. If you are interested in receiving our classroom text alerts, information to sign up can be found under the "Helpful Links & Extra Copies" tab at the top of the page. These alerts provide helpful reminders and are also a great way to stay up to date on homework assignments.

Money, Money, Money!

This week we are beginning our money unit. We are very excited to learn about all of the different coins, their values, and how to add and subtract different amounts. One of the ways we will be learning to add coins is through the use of "touch money." When using this method, students are able to skip count by 5's while touching imaginary dots on each coin. Below you will find helpful links and resources for this unit.
