Blogging Madness!
As part of our "Genius Hour" research projects, the students and I have begun blogging about our progress. We will be using kidblog.org to share our research with the rest of our class. Our blogs are completely private and can only be accessed by the students in our class, however your child is more than welcome to blog at home if they would like. Links to our kidblog login pages can be found on the website we use in class, missjacobsonsclass.blogspot.com, under the toolbox tab at the top . We will be using the blogs to keep track of our progress, research, as well as any supplies we may need to continue our research. Please encourage your child to login to their account at home and share their project with you! We are learning so many interesting things and are very excited to continue our research!

Clash Day
The students and I are very excited to say that we have earned a clash day for good behavior as a class. We will be having our clash day on Friday, April 17th. Everyone is invited to wear non-matching clothes or do their hair in a crazy way for this day. A note will be sent home tomorrow as a reminder. :)
Thanks so much! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Genius Hour
The kids and I are extremely excited to begin a brand new project! We will be doing "Genius Hour" in our class, which is a research project using Google's company philosophy. Below you will find a few videos to help explain exactly what "Genius Hour" is. One is for parents, while the other one is the clip we watched in class to get started. Please know that the videos explain the original format to "Genius Hour," we will be doing a second grade version of it in our class. :)
We will be working on this project for one hour in class for four or more weeks, so please do not feel like this needs to be completed at home. However, if your child chooses to work on a portion of their project at home that is fine as well. We are all extremely passionate about our projects and may want to find a book from the public library or talk with an expert in the field, this is a completely optional portion to the project. Please allow them to create their project as they see fit to allow them to benefit from the full "Genius Hour" experience.

We look forward to experiencing all of the benefits "Genius Hour" has to offer. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Spring Fever :)
Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend! It seems that spring break may have caused many of us in class to catch spring fever and possibly a forgetfulness bug. :) I have received many emails this past week about forgotten assignments and forgotten homework notebooks. In an effort to help you continue to support your child at home, I will be sending home pictures of as many homework assignments as I can through our Remind101 text account. The photos can then be saved, emailed, or printed if needed. If you have not yet signed up for this great resource, please consider doing so using the sign up information link found under the "Helpful Links and Resources" tab at the top of the page.
Thanks again for all of your help and support this year! Have a great weekend!

Geometry Math Unit
I hope everyone enjoyed their time off! Later this week we will begin our geometry unit. Every math unit, students are put into groups and have been receiving activities and tutorial videos through their LearnPads. I am pleased to announce that these resources have now been put on a website and can be accessed at home! The students and I are very excited about this and I promised them I would share it with you! :)
The group resources for geometry will be available once we have taken our pre-tests and have been assigned groups. These activities can be found at missjacobsonsclass.blogspot.com. Please have your child do their group's activities at home to help them continue to grow in second grade math. There are also links to frontrowed.com and xtramath.org
I look forward to continuing to work with you to make this year the best it can possibly be. As always, please email me if you have any questions or problems accessing these great resources! :)
